Job Summary:
Develops and maintains records and implements guidelines for the area as well as maintains the overall quality of the classroom under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, Site Supervisor or Center Operations, Specialist.
Assists in providing a stimulating and comprehensive learning environment for infants and toddlers or Head Start children (three to five-year-old) and perform all responsibilities in the Lead Teacher's absence.
Assures all State Licensing Guidelines and Performance standards are followed.
Job Duties:
Directly responsible as a primary caregiver for four (4) infant/toddlers in group care (Early Head Start only).
Works as a team member with other Faculty and Volunteers.
Develops lesson plans and assures plans and guidelines are followed in accordance with applicable guidelines.
Assists with implementation of performance standards, program assessments, local written plans and all other standards related to program operations.
Works closely with the other Faculty in all aspects of the program such as lesson plans, Individual Education Plans for Disabilities (IEP), Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP), Individual Learning Plans (ILP), home visits, parent meetings, classroom maintenance, and enrolling students, etc.
Plans and conducts a minimum of two Home Visits and two Parent Teacher Conferences yearly.
Works with children with disabilities and/or children whose developmental age or stage may be delayed, i.
e.
, toileting, changing diapers, or pull-ups.
Manages each assigned child's individual assessments, weekly lesson plans, and weekly objectives in order to meet the child's development needs and enters into the database for Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG’s).
Encourages parental involvement and achieves and maintains good parent and teacher relationships.
Maintains communication with parents and staff in both written and verbal form.
Interacts with the children based upon knowledge of the appropriate behavior for the specific age of the children in care and facilitates appropriate interaction among children using positive disciplinary techniques.
Works with childer without recourse to physical punishment, mistreatment or child abuse.
Must report all suspected child abuse/neglect in accordance with the ECU policies and procedures.
Assists in maintaining a clean/orderly and sanitized classroom by cleaning and sanitizing classroom daily according to approved schedule and guidelines.
Strives to maintain 85% Center attendance for students and reports reasons for non-compliance, absences, or tardiness according to the procedure.
Maintains 100% Center enrollment by replacing children who drop with another enrollee within the 30-day timeframe.
Assures the completion of all documentation required of each classroom/center and that Center records and forms are completed and updated within specified time frames.
Must keep all children/family files up to date and confidential.
Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school education; or general education degree (GED).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least six months experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating for those centers providing a bus route.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
