Position Summary
Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in medical and/or surgical units according to established procedures.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Documents initial nursing histories, assesses patients’ conditions and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit.
Oversees the delivery of patient care for a group of patients; directs and delegates patient care assignments to nursing staff working on the
floor, based on acuteness of patient care needs and staff availability.
Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to
ensure optimal patient care.
Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
Assists providers with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares for continuing care after discharge.
Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical treatment.
Responds to code calls and directs codes when no physician is available.
Assists other members of the nursing team and/or other disciplines.
Provides health care instruction to patient and family members.
Establishes and maintains communication between the nursing unit and ancillary department for the purpose of problem solving.
Utilizes appropriate lines of communication within the nursing department.
Assist providers and aids patients and families, as needed, in times of stress or crisis.
Arranges for patients’ ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel.
Assists in formulating and screening Quality Assurance criteria and providing in-service training for
staff.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and
workshops.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education - Associate Degree / Diploma
Minimum Experience - Sufficient previous clinical experience
Required Certification/Registration - Oklahoma accepted RN license; BLS certification, NIHSS
Preferred Education - Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Course(s)/Training - ACLS/PALS/BASIC ARRYTHMIA
Preferred Certification/Registration - Certification in Medical/Surgical Nursing
